5 Tips To Keep Your Braces In Tip-Top Shape Over the Holiday Season

Find out how to keep your braces in tip-top shape this holiday season!

It’s the holidays, which means there are sweet treats everywhere you look, but those goodies can be tough on your braces. Find out how to keep your braces in tip-top shape during the holiday season.

Brush + Floss

The first step is to brush and floss regularly, to make sure any leftover sugary sweets get washed away before they cause damage. Be sure to brush at least two times per day (after meals is best) and floss at least once.

Bonus Tip: If you’re having trouble getting floss under the archwire of your braces, try using a floss threader. It will make it easy to pull your floss under the archwire.

Avoid Crunchy, Sticky Treats

If your Great-Aunt Bertha offers you peanut brittle or a candy cane, it’s best to pass. Anything sticky or crunchy runs the risk of damaging your braces and getting stuck in your teeth, which can cause tooth decay.

Don’t Open Anything With Your Teeth

Whether you want to crack a walnut or rip off a price tag, don’t do it with your teeth. You run the risk of damaging your braces and your teeth.

Pass on Sugary Drinks

When you have braces, it’s even more important to say no to sugar-laden beverages. Avoid sugary punches, soda and even juice, which can promote tooth decay. Stick with water and you’ll be glad you did.

Everything in Moderation

Indulge without going overboard with goodies. Try balancing your sweet treats with healthy snacks like veggie platters. Your teeth AND your waistline will thank you come January.
