Oral Health is very important to practice, if not more so while wearing braces!
If you or your child wear braces, here’s why it’s so important to take care of your teeth, mouth, and gums.
When you have braces, you need to regularly brush and floss to avoid problems such as getting cavities or discoloration under your braces. Check out these tips on how to clean your teeth if you have braces.
Here are four ways to make sure your teeth stay healthy if you have braces:
- Rinse and brush your teeth three to four times a day to loosen up food trapped in your braces. You can also use a fluoride rinse each night after brushing.
- At least once a day, you should floss your teeth to help keep your gums healthy. Flossing can help get rid of food and plaque that can turn into tartar. If your child has braces, you may need to help him or her floss and do a thorough job.
- Have regular cleanings and checkups every six months with a dental hygienist and dentist to keep your teeth healthy and spot any issues before they become more serious.
- Keep up a good routine when you’re on vacation or at school. Don’t forget to pack a toothbrush, floss, and fluoride rinse. Trying to pack light? You can buy travel-size dental accessories at a local drug store. If your child has braces, get an extra toothbrush and toothpaste to carry in a backpack or purse so he or she can brush at school after lunch.
